Miller’s House by asdfg Architekten

Description by asdfg Architekten The history and special situation of the building was a big challenge, but we also saw a high potential in it to become a very unique single family house with a garden in the center of one of the most popular neighbourhoods of Berlin. As it is the oldest building of Prenzlauer Berg, the authorities requested us to reconstruct the facade of the heritage-protected building precisely as depicted on an historical drawing from the year 1844. We wanted to show the history of the old building without pretending that the facade would be 170 years old. Our concept was to interpret the lines in the historical drawing as differences in the height of a stucco facade using ancient techniques and materials. In an architectural drawing a line could be interpreted in different ways; as a gap in the wall, a section line or a difference in [ Continue reading ]

Brick houses

I always compared brick houses with grandparents houses and I don’t even know you. I didn’t have the luck to have grandparents living in the countryside so I always wanted to go somewhere where I can feel at grandparents. Brick houses are designed from raw materials and they look amazing! They give you the feeling that the architect worked so much placing every singe piece of … there. They are common for London architecture, they look vintage. I also think that a brick interior would look stunning, but I will do some research and I will talk soon about it and I will show you picture for ideas. Have you ever seen a brick house? How did you like it?

How to Make a Garden Fountain Out of, Well, Anything You Want

You tried sweating it out in the sauna, you can’t let go in a yoga pose, and om isn’t exactly hitting home. And no wonder—you’re working too hard at relaxing. What you need is a place to sit quietly and contemplate the sounds of nature: birds chirping, breezes blowing, brooks babbling. What—no backyard brook? Not a problem. Just build yourself the next best thing, with a softly trickling garden fountain. The project is nothing to get stressed about. In a mere weekend, you can fountain-ize most any leftover garden ornament, turning it into an enduring monument to tranquillity. Revive a defunct birdbath, declare your own ode to a Grecian urn, or drill holes in a stack of rocks you found on-site, as This Old House technical editor Mark Powers did for a friend one hot afternoon. When the job is finished and your fountain runneth over, you’ll rinse the tension from your [ Continue reading ]

House in Mexico by Bernardi + Peschard Arquitectura

The architectural design begins with a central volume that is bigger than the rest; it dialogues with, divides and denotes the uses of the surrounding spaces. It was built as fragments that become a series of independent pavilions, and turn the complex into a beach villa. It leaves behind the massive house constructions in the surrounding area. In a palapa made of natural parota wood, over 10 m high, you find the living/dining room, which makes the transition to the semiprivate and private spaces. This element has a first plane looking into the private beach on the Pacific coast. This area was designed with the idea of making it the common area, the heart of the house, and so it is close to the sea, and has an imposing height and size. Next to this you find the other spaces in rock blocks mixed with wood elements and a palm [ Continue reading ]

Floors

We spoke about lighting, about home accessories, walls, but never about floors. Aren’t they as important as the others? Of course they are! The floor is the thing that makes the room full, that completes it. Here is a collection of floors featuring cement tiles, very different, beautiful and chic and add so much character to an interior. You can be very creative with these, and you can mix and play with the colors and patterns.
