Ceramic House

The ceramic House was the idea of the Spanish architect Hector Ruiz – Velazquez and it is not an actual house, but rather a small apartment in Madrid. These apartment doesn’t have any entry from room to room, no doors. The idea of the architect being to ease the communication between family members in different rooms. Although I used the term ‘family’, the architect Hector says that this apartment is dedicated to those who live all by themselves, because the apartment itself it’s not big enough. The interior is all white because almost everything is made with cerami, and I suspect that the apartment temperature is lower (because of ceramic wall and floor).

The Art Of Arranging The Mirrors

If we talked about feng shui in the last article , I thought to choose a piece of this art , namely arranging mirrors to talk about. Mirrors are used in interior decoration thanks to its ability to visually enlarge the room. According to Feng Shui the principles must be to place mirrors to reflect only things positively charged objects . For example , indoor plants , a painting representing nature etc.How and where you should not put mirrors: 1) It is not advisable to have mirrors in the bedroom; 2) Mirrors should not reflect the front door; 3) Mirrors must not reflect any bathroom door or the kitchen; 4 ) Mirrors should not reflect corners of the furniture , columns or beams.

The Staircase

Come and see how people have turned this architectural lynch pin in to a thing of beauty which, that can set the decorative tone of an entire house. Come and scale the dizzying heights of staircase design. To me, it seems a beautiful, inspirational, creative idea, one that I would adopt if I had a house.  Jessica Doyle has a guide to staircase in which she give you lots and lots of ideas and she is the one who inspired me to write this article.

By The River

One of my biggest dreams is to live beside the seaside, the river, somewhere surrounded by water. I don’t dream about a big, luxurious house, but a small and modest one with big windows from where I can see the sunset and the sunrise every single day. The house I just described is scandinavian style. They can  make a room with a simple white sofa, some white sheer curtains and a birch coffee table, look the most elegant and comfortable space !

Bedroom Vanity

If you are like me and you love makeup, you really need a vanity corner in your room. If you already have one, it means you are lucky ! So what’s a bedroom vanity? Actually, this is a desk designed for storing all your makeup products, with a mirror attached to it. Many people are always confused when they need to decide what kind of vanity is good enough for the decoration in their bedrooms. So I am here to help you. If you have a big and large bedroom you can definitely buy a big vanity desk with an imposing mirror and a lot of drawers, but if you have a small room you can choose to buy a corner bedroom vanity (because this type of vanity doesn’t take up much space and you can move it to your bathroom when you don’t want it in the bedroom anymore) [ Continue reading ]

Feel Nature In Your House

Supporting the environment and natural beauty is one thing when you are laying on the beach watching the waves lap onto the shore or when you are high atop a mountain surveying the land below. In your house or apartment, nature can be a bit of a tricky beast. After all, while your dog might be more than welcome in your bed, any other critter from outside would be an infestation. So how can you make your home more nature-friendly while still protecting its sanctity and design? Try a vertical garden. These walls planted with greenery are not just beautiful with their vibrant leaves, but they also serve as natural air filters by ‘breathing in’ carbon dioxide and ‘breathing out’ pure, fresh oxygen. Let’s take a look! I found this idea very interesting so I was glad to present it to you hoping that this will catch your attention! If [ Continue reading ]

An Old Door Design

I found a nice solid old door at the Habitat for Humanity ReStore for just a couple of dollars.   The door just happened to be the exact width of two craft crates that I got on sale. I went to the hardware store and got one board to top off the crates and one for a shelf. I replaced the glass with bead board… it was more practical. And then Lots and lots of paint… First I painted everything with black acrylic paint I had left over from another project. Then when that dried I coated everything with a white satin acrylic paint. I put it all together with some brackets and hooks and decorative knobs I got 75% off at the craft store. I then distressed it lightly and glazed it with Valspar Antiquing Glaze. I really like it because I wanted it more black and white than [ Continue reading ]

A Simple House with Style

Christian Street House by James Russell Architect: “We are fortunate to live with a benign subtropical climate. Christian Street House in Clayfield, an inner north suburb of Brisbane, sits on the east side of a rolling hill, opening its face to the morning sun and bay breezes. It’s back is buried in the hill, protected from the harsh summer sun, storms and winter westerlies. High gables make a patio to street, a covered arrival and gathering place with barn doors to living behind. Cars participate without becoming a barrier between street and life within. There are many ways to move around this place. Journey from street can take you across patio, down outdoor stairs and around garden to meals, living and water. The boys can sneek in from street via a grungy service lane, they can come and go independently. Their rooms have a more public side to garden and [ Continue reading ]

Ceramic Tiles

This is one of my favorite options for a contemporary approach. Ceramic may be an expensive material, but if you know where and how to look for it, you can find it a great price. I recommend you an outlet for this. They look great in every colors, but especially white, black or grey. They are amazing for offices, for living rooms, for the balcony and also for the bedroom. Keep in mind that they will keep the house a little bit cold, but that wouldn’t be a problem in the hot days of summer.
