MOOE House by FCP Arquitectura

Description by FCP Arquitectura A large volume of white extended walls that recreates the trees on the lot preserving family privacy that connects with portions of forest … lots of heaven … lots of water. The lot is located in a gated neighborhood near the central area of the city of Córdoba and it showed great contrasts … .an irregular exposing corner lot that challenged us to preserve home life … .an ancient dense forest of native trees occupied half of the land, opposite to a plain stripped of vegetation. The challenge and exploration of the work aimed to amalgamate the light of the land with the programmatic needs of housing … the forest, its shadow, its intimacy … and the plain, its light, its expansion as a vacuum to overturn in architecture. A serene family life of four members with an active social life. Thus, the skin is the [ Continue reading ]

Casa Azul by Cincopatasalgato

” Happy, serene, gentle, friendly, good-hearted young family of 4 built this beach house at Costa Azul, an hour and half away from San Salvador and close to the border with Guatemala. Husband and father works in capital investment and wife and mother is the owner of La Luna de Mateo in San Salvador, a kids’ playhouse that caters to their imagination and need for exploration. Both born and raised in El Salvador, they resettled in their native country after years of traveling and living abroad to build a home that spoke to their gentle nature. Their new home, built right on the beach, allowed their children Mateo and Luna, 6 and 4 respectively, to play and explore at their hearts’ desire. Between choosing the location and designing the home, their ideal home would have the following elements – simple, elegant, inviting, and connected with nature, with modern yet rustic [ Continue reading ]

House in Mexico by Bernardi + Peschard Arquitectura

The architectural design begins with a central volume that is bigger than the rest; it dialogues with, divides and denotes the uses of the surrounding spaces. It was built as fragments that become a series of independent pavilions, and turn the complex into a beach villa. It leaves behind the massive house constructions in the surrounding area. In a palapa made of natural parota wood, over 10 m high, you find the living/dining room, which makes the transition to the semiprivate and private spaces. This element has a first plane looking into the private beach on the Pacific coast. This area was designed with the idea of making it the common area, the heart of the house, and so it is close to the sea, and has an imposing height and size. Next to this you find the other spaces in rock blocks mixed with wood elements and a palm [ Continue reading ]

On The Balcony

The first thing you observe at a home is the outdoor area, so that’s why it is very important to decorate it with style. As far as I am concerned, the outdoor area should be GREEN. Why green? I mean, full of plants, flowers arranged as arty as possible. I always declared my love for the nature, and how much I love staying outside, watching the sky, the stars. I would also love to have breakfast there. For those who doesn’t live at the countryside, or they don’t have  a house it is a little bit frustrating to have such a little balcony in an apartment, but I tell you for sure that you can make it look great also.

Is It A Stack of Books? -NO! It’s A Staircase

It’s truly amazing what some imagination and craftiness can do to a set of stairs! Pippa Branham, a bibliophile from England, painted her staircase to look like the spine of her and her husband’s 13 favorite books. She says that she was inspired by an image she saw on Pinterest. For all of us, Pippa shared some images of how she transformed the  wooden stairs into colorful “books” using brushes, tape, paint and, of course, time (6 weeks). The whole project cost the family less than $200, which was less expensive than carpeting the stairs. Pippa declared that  the most difficult part of the project was painting sets of letters sideways. Pippa is a young mother and to ensure the stairs were safe for kids (and not slippery from the paint), she mixed the paint with a small amount of kid’s play sand to make it grittier. If you are a [ Continue reading ]

How To Create Your Dream Veranda

We don’t see everyday houses with balconies big enough to allow more than a chair, and maybe that’s why are less design ideas for balconies or verandas. Here are some ideas of how you can decorate your balcony/veranda. 1.Take attention to the floor 2. Climb plants on the walls; 3.Make yourself a cozy place by bringing your inside chairs, pillows and blankets outside; 4.Create contrast to make it look bigger than it is; I will show you some photos to see how these ideas would look.

Romanian vs American Tradional kitchen

The kitchen is probably the place where you can find out good stories, where family meet at the end of the day. There are not so many things to say about this two type of kitchens: If you are Romanian, as I am, you know for sure how it looks: a lot of wood, traditional carpet, painted pots. The American one has the little bar where you can prepare food, surrounded by chairs, it is as simple as possible, not too many colors. The styles of these two are totally different, the american one is as luxurious as possible, with modern furniture, but the romanian one is simple, is trying to put in value the traditional style of Romania (a lot of colors, nature, wood, brick). I love the romanian one more, because of its positive vibe.
