Ruffey Lake House by Inbetween Architecture

Description by Inbetween Architecture To make the most of its privileged position, overlooking Ruffey Lake Park, this 1970s double brick home is undergoing a complete transformation. To take better advantage of its stunning outlook and north-facing frontage, the previously dark and compartmentalised interior is being opened up to embrace natural light, stunning views and a greater connection between kitchen, dining and living spaces, the heart of the modern home. Quieter, more private spaces, such as the music room and TV den with sunken pit will nestle snugly into the sheltered, more segmented west side of the existing floor plate. Clever reworking of existing stepped floor levels and the strategic placement of skylights bring the airy beauty of natural light through the house and down to the ground floor, and when combined with dramatically raked eaves to the north, the result is unique focal points which will inject variation and personality [ Continue reading ]

Miller’s House by asdfg Architekten

Description by asdfg Architekten The history and special situation of the building was a big challenge, but we also saw a high potential in it to become a very unique single family house with a garden in the center of one of the most popular neighbourhoods of Berlin. As it is the oldest building of Prenzlauer Berg, the authorities requested us to reconstruct the facade of the heritage-protected building precisely as depicted on an historical drawing from the year 1844. We wanted to show the history of the old building without pretending that the facade would be 170 years old. Our concept was to interpret the lines in the historical drawing as differences in the height of a stucco facade using ancient techniques and materials. In an architectural drawing a line could be interpreted in different ways; as a gap in the wall, a section line or a difference in [ Continue reading ]

Casa Azul by Cincopatasalgato

” Happy, serene, gentle, friendly, good-hearted young family of 4 built this beach house at Costa Azul, an hour and half away from San Salvador and close to the border with Guatemala. Husband and father works in capital investment and wife and mother is the owner of La Luna de Mateo in San Salvador, a kids’ playhouse that caters to their imagination and need for exploration. Both born and raised in El Salvador, they resettled in their native country after years of traveling and living abroad to build a home that spoke to their gentle nature. Their new home, built right on the beach, allowed their children Mateo and Luna, 6 and 4 respectively, to play and explore at their hearts’ desire. Between choosing the location and designing the home, their ideal home would have the following elements – simple, elegant, inviting, and connected with nature, with modern yet rustic [ Continue reading ]

A Simple House with Style

Christian Street House by James Russell Architect: “We are fortunate to live with a benign subtropical climate. Christian Street House in Clayfield, an inner north suburb of Brisbane, sits on the east side of a rolling hill, opening its face to the morning sun and bay breezes. It’s back is buried in the hill, protected from the harsh summer sun, storms and winter westerlies. High gables make a patio to street, a covered arrival and gathering place with barn doors to living behind. Cars participate without becoming a barrier between street and life within. There are many ways to move around this place. Journey from street can take you across patio, down outdoor stairs and around garden to meals, living and water. The boys can sneek in from street via a grungy service lane, they can come and go independently. Their rooms have a more public side to garden and [ Continue reading ]

Creative Kitchen Luster

When it comes to be creative I am the first one who raise the hand. I love creative people and when I go to a new home I hope I will see some creativity. There are some kitchen luster made from forks, glasses and a lot of other kitchen objects. I think you should be bold to use one, but it is something that I would love to see in everyone’s kitchen. I usually saw these type of lusters in restaurants, but I think they would look AMAZING in our house   I’ll show you some different designs to make an idea. Personally, I would choose the one made from jars or glasses. Are you courageous enough to place a luster like this in your kitchen? If yes, which one?

Suspended Beds

Suspended beds are, for sure, the most playful idea for your bedroom. Hanging beds is something that changes the point of view that we used to have when choosing for the perfect bed. Hanging beds designs are simple, built with raw materials and new technology which helps holding it on the walls or under de ceiling. This also save a lot of space and allows you using the space under it for storing the things you didn’t have spaces for. It is a good idea for small apartments. This requires a strong ceiling which that can support the weight of the bed. So, make sure that your ceiling is strong enough to sustain your bed before you start looking for one.
