Ruffey Lake House by Inbetween Architecture

Description by Inbetween Architecture To make the most of its privileged position, overlooking Ruffey Lake Park, this 1970s double brick home is undergoing a complete transformation. To take better advantage of its stunning outlook and north-facing frontage, the previously dark and compartmentalised interior is being opened up to embrace natural light, stunning views and a greater connection between kitchen, dining and living spaces, the heart of the modern home. Quieter, more private spaces, such as the music room and TV den with sunken pit will nestle snugly into the sheltered, more segmented west side of the existing floor plate. Clever reworking of existing stepped floor levels and the strategic placement of skylights bring the airy beauty of natural light through the house and down to the ground floor, and when combined with dramatically raked eaves to the north, the result is unique focal points which will inject variation and personality [ Continue reading ]

Miller’s House by asdfg Architekten

Description by asdfg Architekten The history and special situation of the building was a big challenge, but we also saw a high potential in it to become a very unique single family house with a garden in the center of one of the most popular neighbourhoods of Berlin. As it is the oldest building of Prenzlauer Berg, the authorities requested us to reconstruct the facade of the heritage-protected building precisely as depicted on an historical drawing from the year 1844. We wanted to show the history of the old building without pretending that the facade would be 170 years old. Our concept was to interpret the lines in the historical drawing as differences in the height of a stucco facade using ancient techniques and materials. In an architectural drawing a line could be interpreted in different ways; as a gap in the wall, a section line or a difference in [ Continue reading ]

What is a Tulou?

A tulou or “earthen building”, is a traditional communal residence found in Fujian Province South China, usually of a circular configuration surrounding a central shrine. Some were constructed out of cut granite or had substantial walls of fired brick The Fujian Tulou is probably the last one, built in 2008 and it looks like this: The Fujian Tulou is including Chuxi tulou group, Tianluokeng tulou cluster, Hekeng tulou cluster, Gaobei tulou cluster, Dadi tulou cluster, Hongkeng tulou cluster, Yangxian lou, Huiyuan lou, Zhengfu lou and Hegui lou, and it is considered  as “exceptional examples of a building tradition and function exemplifying a particular type of communal living and defensive organization in a harmonious relationship with their environment”.   I really like the concept of these buildings, and I heard that it were also made to deposit things, which means they are very spacious. The relationship between people living in that area should be very strong.

See Beyond Your Limits

Two Greek architects have created a striking house design called ‘Casa Brutale’ that perfectly complements the powerful concrete style known as brutalism – they’ve embedded their luxury brutalist home into a cliff, creating a severe yet inviting structure with an at once beautiful and terrifying view. Architects Laertis Antonios Ando Vassiliou and Pantelis Kampouropoulos, who formed OPA Works together, envisioned the building concept as a “poetic homage to pure Brutalism.” The roof-top pool (at ground level) and underground walls help insulate the building and keep it cool. There’s clearly something about cliffs that excites architects’ imaginations, because the architects at Modscape Concept also created an amazing cliff-face house concept. This is amazing, isn`t it? Scandinavian Apartment with Greek Accents

The Scandinavian home style has made its way to everyone’s heart lately thanks to its defined and yet wild manner. Two typical features of this style- white walls and simple forward-thinking furniture are to be found in this very design too. But that’s not all. A curve ball introduces subtle accents of Greek home designing. This thoughtful mixture establishes an alluring composition with a grain of freshness. Starting in the living, the stark Scandi walls induce a minimalistic backdrop for a full host of natural Greek materials, sprinkled all over the lounging zone. Dainty foot stads complimenting scatter cushions and floor cushions, together with a large rug unite to construct a gracious semblance. The kitchen design spreads on the blue and white palette. A lenghty backsplash has been formed from a checkerboard of tiles. The furniture itself has a traditional touch. White wooden, with shell cup handles establish a bold, [ Continue reading ]

Treat Your Cat Royally

Create for you and your family!   Looking on the internet for a DIY product, I found a really games and animals lover, that designed a bed for his cat in the shape based on Chain Chomp character from the Super Mario Bros. He designs something that could sit in a room as art, but also have a practical use. The box that Chain Chomp’s attached to has hinges mounted from the inside to hide them, but to let you open the box for storage. It is not only a bed, but a piece of furniture that could be found attractive because if its form. For me, this is an obviously product of the human imagination, which tries to push the limits. The maker also shows the steps of the doing-process and everybody could try it at home. An important aspect that you should take into consideration if you think [ Continue reading ]
