House Renovation by +Tongtong Architects

Description by +Tongtong Multidisciplinary design studio +tongtong recently completed a renovation and addition to a traditional Victorian house in Toronto. The house was transformed into an open and bright modern home through a series of strategic moves and incisions. The specifications were to build a modern family home that expands the area of livable space while remaining true to the vernacular of the neighborhood. This challenge was met with an emphasis on natural materials and light. Inspired by rural living and the original build date of the home, industrial materials accentuate re-imagined architectural qualities in an unmistakable contemporary space. Grey and black zinc used throughout both the exterior and interior of the home is a material that blends traditional aspects with the new contemporary scheme. Inside, a vertical shaft brings light from large skylights down 3 floors illuminating the ground floor while animating a zinc wall and ceiling above the [ Continue reading ]

Interior Courtyard

A garden in the house? Sounds a little bit strange, I know, but for me this is again an original idea which inspires and makes me to want increasingly more to live in a house, not in an apartment. What could be better than sitting in the living room, on a winter evening, relaxing with a cup of hot chocolate and surround a small garden with plants? I do not find it difficult to maintain, as long as it isn’t large and occupies only a small part of your space. I said this too in previous articles and I think it is something worth to remind when decorating our space: feng shui encourage the use of many herbs and natural elements to decorate the house , so a kindergarten inside the living room does not sound bad at all , right?

Does the nature defeat against nature?

To live , to be one with the nature is not the first thing that people want. The century of technology , the emergence of super modern houses and luxury has made people no longer wanting to live in nature . As we know, the urban space is much more developed and popularized than the rural one. But to don’t you miss from time to time to take a breath of fresh and healthy air? Okay, that’s why I’m here today , namely , to explain how you can have all these things ( a modern house , health , nature ) combined. For that, there are many talented architects who combined nature with luxury, and why not technology . Let me show you some of the original ideas of architects such as Lema Martin Fernandez , Nicolas Moreno Deutsch, Peter and Lucy Gauntlett Eisinga , Jeremy Levine .

Is It A Stack of Books? -NO! It’s A Staircase

It’s truly amazing what some imagination and craftiness can do to a set of stairs! Pippa Branham, a bibliophile from England, painted her staircase to look like the spine of her and her husband’s 13 favorite books. She says that she was inspired by an image she saw on Pinterest. For all of us, Pippa shared some images of how she transformed the  wooden stairs into colorful “books” using brushes, tape, paint and, of course, time (6 weeks). The whole project cost the family less than $200, which was less expensive than carpeting the stairs. Pippa declared that  the most difficult part of the project was painting sets of letters sideways. Pippa is a young mother and to ensure the stairs were safe for kids (and not slippery from the paint), she mixed the paint with a small amount of kid’s play sand to make it grittier. Yellow Rooms

Yellow is the warmest and expandable color. It is also the symbol of youth, the color of gods. This color stimulates the central nervous system, increases the digestive capacity, and it makes us feel in shape. So, painting your walls in yellow or buying yellow room décor it is a good choice for you. Not only that it looks incredible, but it will also make you feel physically and mentally. If you want to hear the symbolism of other colors and you need some help deciding which one is better for your room, please let me know and I will make a post about the color you need.

Clocks

The watches are also included in the category of decorations for the home, although very little attention it’s given to this issue , they are indispensable . Well, I thought about this issue because, honestly, I ‘m a little bit bored with the classical watches that are hung on a nail on the wall in the hallway or kitchen .I took five minutes of my time searching for a  few original, as artistic as possible watches that also look better.I encourage you to pay more attention to basic decorations which occupies a small place in your house/apartment.
