Is It A Stack of Books? -NO! It’s A Staircase

It’s truly amazing what some imagination and craftiness can do to a set of stairs! Pippa Branham, a bibliophile from England, painted her staircase to look like the spine of her and her husband’s 13 favorite books. She says that she was inspired by an image she saw on Pinterest. For all of us, Pippa shared some images of how she transformed the  wooden stairs into colorful “books” using brushes, tape, paint and, of course, time (6 weeks). The whole project cost the family less than $200, which was less expensive than carpeting the stairs. Pippa declared that  the most difficult part of the project was painting sets of letters sideways. Pippa is a young mother and to ensure the stairs were safe for kids (and not slippery from the paint), she mixed the paint with a small amount of kid’s play sand to make it grittier. A New Concept – UFO Floating House

With the sea level rising as a result of global warming, the low-lying, peolple found an alteternative for the conventional houses on the ground. The floating house is not a new concept, but some architects took it at a new level – The UFO Floating House. While you can always head for the hills to wait out the apocalypse, a more stylish option could be a fully sustainable floating home from Italian mini yacht-maker Jet Capsule. The company has drawn up a concept for a saucer-shaped UFO, or Unidentified Floating Object, which offers a completely off-grid existence floating on the ocean. The  company’s co-founders, Pierpaolo Lazzarini and Luca Solla, the UFO is intended for “living in a floating house and moving slowly around the world.” “Slowly” in this case means a leisurely maximum speed of 3.5 knots (6.5 km/h, 4 mph), using a waterjet-propelled Torqeedo Deep Blue 1800 electric motor. A boring deck or a cool outdoor kitchen?

Imgur user RogerBennett55 was getting no use out of the patio in his backyard, so a change had to be made. He decided that eating and drinking were a few of his favorite pastimes and so that became the genesis for building an outdoor kitchen of his own. Brilliant. After watching a few online tutorials and doing some research on how to design his own kitchen he began to build his dream. And only several weeks of work later he did just that. In his own words, this is exactly how he pulled it off… Building out the U frame. Bar and footrest attached. Starting the Durock installation  Supports for grill and framing for doors. And more Durock Drop in ice chest cutout and door framed Here’s to hoping the grill fits…fingers crossed. Durock nearly done…just need to cutout spot for the Big Green Egg grill in corner.  Grill fits!! Nearly–a little [ Continue reading ]

An Old Door Design

I found a nice solid old door at the Habitat for Humanity ReStore for just a couple of dollars.   The door just happened to be the exact width of two craft crates that I got on sale. I went to the hardware store and got one board to top off the crates and one for a shelf. I replaced the glass with bead board… it was more practical. And then Lots and lots of paint… First I painted everything with black acrylic paint I had left over from another project. Then when that dried I coated everything with a white satin acrylic paint. I put it all together with some brackets and hooks and decorative knobs I got 75% off at the craft store. I then distressed it lightly and glazed it with Valspar Antiquing Glaze. I really like it because I wanted it more black and white than [ Continue reading ]
